Groundbreaking Nissan ProPILOT Assist Technology is Coming to the U.S.

Recently, Nissan let members of the media get behind the wheel so that they could get first-hand experience with the company's ProPILOT Assist technology. This next-level driver-assistance technology helps control steering, acceleration and braking to reduce the stress that stop-and-go highway driving places on drivers. The technology will be available to customers this coming fall.

ProPILOT makes use of a forward-facing camera, forward-facing radar, sensors and an electronic control module to help maintain the vehicle's spot in the center of the driving lane while also keeping to a specific speed set by the driver -- or maintain the space between the car and the vehicle in front if speeds drop below the designated setting. The system is even capable of slowing the vehicle to a complete stop and holding it there during traffic jams.

all it takes to activate the system is an easy two-step process. First drivers press the ProPILOT Assist ON button, then set the Intelligent Cruise Control once the desired speed has been reached.

The system was developed over 50,000 miles driving on roads across the nation before it was unveiled at the Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) in Michigan.
